Placement

By following my blog, so far all you have heard about is my weekend travels! I think it’s time to prove that this isn’t one big vacation and that I am actually working while I am here :)

Everyday I go to the hospital at 8am and stay until anywhere from 12:30-2. I spend my time in the clinic with the other students and assistants. As patients come in and out we offer to assist them and just talk with them. Typically, I work with this little boy named Ebenezer. He is 1 year old and is unable to crawl or walk yet. This wouldn’t be a big concern but since he has spina bifida his lower limbs may be paralyzed. He does a lot of leg strengthening which seems to be helping a little bit. If I could see this little boy crawl before I leave I will feel more than accomplished knowing I’ve helped! I have also worked with stroke patients and kids with cerebral palsy. I’ve been getting to do a lot of hands-on experience which is one thing I really wanted to be able to do. Occasionally, I get to go into the hospital to make rounds to the patients needing PT in there or just observe a different area of the hospital for the day. Although some days placement gets long, I am enjoying myself and taking in the extreme differences compared to back home.
