We traveled all the way through the country of Ghana to get to the Northern Region where there is another national park! To make the drive worthwhile we made stops on the way to break up the time and entertain ourselves. We got on the road at 2 am Friday morning and traveled 6 hours to a village where they do weaving. They taught us all how to weave and how they make the ink for stamps! Fun Fact: a lot of the prints that they had pre-made had Obama’s face all over them. They are obsessed with him over here. Anyways, we then piled in and drove another 3 hours to a monkey sanctuary. Here we walked through the jungle to see 2 types of monkeys. One of them was more friendly than the other! We got some mangos so we could feed them and sure enough they loved us and came right on up to us to eat! They were adorable! I could have played with them all day. Unfortunately I couldn’t because we had to get back on the road.
Another 6 hours got us to Mole National Park where we would stay over night and get up in the morning to do a walking safari followed by a jeep safari! This was very exciting! We saw 3 different types of antelope, baboons, warthogs, water buffalo, and elephants! It was quite the adrenaline rush searching for those elephants. Once we saw them I felt like I was looking at a portrait on the set of The Lion King.
After realizing we were all sun burnt, we got some lunch and packed in again to drive another 4 hours to our next hotel. We spent the night at a hotel in a village where we would go to Kintampo Falls the next morning. I love waterfalls so this was really cool! The water was super dirty though so I opted out of swimming since I would be sitting in the car for the next 8 hours.
The ride home was quite the adventure with a flat tire, a tree falling on the road, and getting side swiped. All that said, we made it home safely! Can’t believe 2 weeks have flown by already. Missing you all back home and hope you are enjoying your time reading!
