Eastern Ghana

Another weekend full of driving and sight seeing! We started off at Boti Falls where there are two waterfalls right next to each other. Then to a bead market where we saw how beads are made. We continued to the biggest man made lake in the world - Lake Volta. We took a cruise on the lake to see the dam and took pictures of the landscape. Our last stop of the day was at our hotel in the monkey sanctuary. This was in a little village of 2000 people so it was just like an additional night to the village experience! The community had a bonfire with storytelling, singing and dancing around the fire for us. It is amazing how friendly everyone is no matter where you are in Ghana. The people take you in as family right away and say ‘I would like to be your friend’ while grabbing and shaking your hand like rubber.

Bonfire, storytelling, children, singing, dancing -- Just missing the s'mores!
Saturday morning we woke up with the sunshine and fed the monkeys! This was different from my first monkey experience because they actually jumped on us and hung on us like branches! It was so much fun, I never wanted the bananas to run out. And no worries, I didn’t get bit so no rabies.

We then headed to our next adventure at Wli Falls. This is the highest waterfall in Ghana and we managed to hike to the top! By hike I mean walk gingerly on an uneven path with a walking stick (which I managed to drop down the mountain when we were only a quarter of the way up. I had to steal the guides for the rest of the trek...oops) and then climb trees and even rock climb. The most intense hiking I have ever done by a long shot! When we got to the fall it was so well worth it. We felt so accomplished and relieved that we could finally jump in the water to cool off! After re-charging and preparing ourselves for the hike back we set off to take the same route back to our starting point.

We piled in the van and drove through a rain storm to our hotel for the night where we ordered food only to receive it 2 1/2 hours later. Not surprised by this anymore. The next morning we left for home and made a stop at a botanical garden and Bob Marley’s studio that his wife had set up after he died. It was an awesome but exhausting weekend!

More and more and more roommates! We have a full house! So many Scottish, English, Irish people with 3 other Americans and 1 Australian for a grand total of 31!

Down to 9 days!! Can’t even believe it. Miss you all so much. Hope you are doing well and that the storms were nice to you and that the sun comes out for the fourth!!
